Karen is a dental hygienist working full time in our clinic, and has been with us for many years.
After receiving her dental nursing diploma from Kings College Hospital London, she then continued further studies to become a hygienist and graduated from Guys Hospital London.
Following graduation, she held a post as full time Staff Hygienist providing care for general and maxillofacial patients at The Royal London Hospital.
After working for several years in the UK, she emigrated to Cyprus and has worked in private practice ever since.
The preventive dentistry unit is self-explanatory, in that it is dedicated to helping people ''prevent'' dental disease, whether it be periodontal disease or dental decay.
With patient co-operation and sound advice, dental hygiene is the way forward, Karen is able to assist patients with oral hygiene advice, dietary advice with regard to sugar reduction and a personal treatment plan specific to each individual as we all have different needs.
Each dental hygiene visit is tailored for every patient, this maybe a six-monthly oral exam and routine scale and polish, to periodontal therapy treatments, or maintenance visits for patients with dental implants and orthodontic appliances.
Karen also has a special interest in treating patients with mild to severe dental phobia.
Helping children and adults to overcome any anxiety they may have is of prime importance in achieving a good relationship and a healthy dental outcome, therefore the younger children are in attending their first dental visit the easier any future treatments will be.
Early visits for children are encouraged and 'slow paced' non urgent treatments are carried out in the form of play and learn or perhaps roll play, the young patient is often asked to assist at their visits especially if attending with a sibling.
